Abolition de la limite d'âge pour le tarif étudiant de la STM

- Considérant que le transport en commun est un service essentiel et public;

- Considérant que la STM est une entreprise publique majoritairement financée par le gouvernement, les usagers, l'agglomération de Montréal et les taxes;

- Considérant que le statut d'étudiant est généralement lié à une situation financière précaire;

- Considérant que des frais de 82 $ et plus par mois correspondent à un montant considérable pour les citoyens à revenu précaire;

- Considérant que la limite d'âge pour avoir droit au tarif réduit étudiant de la STM est actuellement de 25 ans pour un étudiant à temps plein;

- Considérant que les étudiants de cet âge ont souvent de plus importantes responsabilités financières (par exemple: les étudiants parents, les retours aux études, etc.)

Nous demandons à la Société de transport de Montréal d'abolir la limite d'âge pour le droit au tarif réduit étudiant. Il n'y a pas d'âge pour s'investir dans des études. Il ne devrait pas y avoir de limites d'âge pour avoir droit au tarif étudiant.

- Taking into account that mass transit is an essential and public service;

- Taking into account that the STM is a public business financed in majority by the government, its users, the city of Montreal, and taxes;

- Taking into account that the status of student is generally tied to a precarious financial situation;

- Taking into account that monthly fees of $82 and more is a considerable amount for citizens with an unstable or lower income;

- Taking into account that the age limit to have access to the STM’s reduced student fare rate is currently 25 years for a full-time student;

- Taking into account that students of that age often have more important financial responsibilities (for example: parent students, returning adult students, etc.)

We ask the Société de Transport de Montréal to abolish the age limit to have access to the reduced student rate. There is no age to invest in one’s education. There shouldn’t be any age limits to have access to the student rate.
